Mike Steel's story for doing this walk:
Duncan Goodenough was Mike's partner Anita’s brother. He unexpectedly contracted cancer in the back and lung aged 46.
After a period of remission following chemotherapy and radiotherapy all seemed fine for a few months. Then he became sick again and there was very little that could be done as he was so weak.
He was admitted to Pendleside Hospice to provide him with more appropriate surroundings for his illness. Duncan was fearful about what the future would hold but had amazing support from all of the staff. He met with the local vicar a number of times and became a lot happier with life and became at peace with himself.
During that time he was made incredibly comfortable at Pendleside and had everything he needed. He really enjoyed all of the activities on offer and was delighted to be able to marry his long term partner Joanne at the Hospice which was a truly fantastic occasion.
Duncan passed away a few days later in his sleep and Mike knows he had a fantastic level of care that would not have been possible if he had remained at hospital or at home.
Please help us raise money for this fantastic cause which provides so much vital care for the local community – you will be helping people like Duncan be treated with respect, dignity and given the care they deserve at a time when they really need it.
