Story
This is a cause that has become very personal since I first met Freddie. A seemingly happy, lovely little boy who, unbeknown to me at the time, had been through the gruelling and traumatising 8 months of treatment for Ewings sarcoma. He still faces a very uncertain future.
We first met Freddie when he joined the same school as our son. Although his parents play down all the things he has gone through some parts of his story gradually came out in conversation. We have been so touched by Freddie and how his amazing parents (seem to) cope with such a difficult situation. Freddie has visited on several occasions and is such a pleasant, polite boy - you would never guess what he has been through. When we heard that his mum was looking for people to run and raise money for bone cancer research I knew I had to put my running shoes back on and go for it.
I'm by no means an accomplished or fast runner. I have run the distance before but only very very slowly. So my aim is to run under 4h30min which is 30minutes faster than my last (and fastest attempt). To have any chance of achieving this I have to lose around 10-12 kg in weight and make every training run count. One slight problem is I rather like food, especially the cake/bicuit/chocolate variety! if you'd like to offer to double or just increase a donation if I make it then that would really help spur me on!
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
