Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My trip is totally self-funded so every penny donated will go to my chosen charity, A.C.T...

I am really excited about climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and cannot wait to get started!!! I am trying to forget about the altitude sickness, malaria, rabies, blisters, lack of welfare facilities, and dodgy mountain food.

To successfully reach the summit of Kilimanjaro one needs to be prepared! I am undertaking a 5 day trek and it will be extremely challenging both physically and mentally - I am sure there will be blood sweat and tears before I reach the summit! Long cycles, runs, and walks are all part of the fun of preparing for the trek. Oh and not to forget the vaccinations!!!

If the thought of me trekking to the highest point in Africa is not enough, as an extra incentive to sponsor me, I WILL BE COMPLETELY ABSTAINING FROM ALCOHOL until I return from my expedition!

Anyway, that’s enough about me.

A.C.T is a National Children’s Charity operating as a national self-help group.  Founded in 1983, A.C.T supports children who can only breathe with the aid of a tracheostomy tube inserted into the windpipe.  A.C.T provides advocacy, support, helpful advice and items of medical equipment to its members.  A lack of awareness in the community of some of the difficulties involved in caring for a baby, child or young adult with a tracheostomy at home can leave families feeling isolated and helpless – A.C.T aims to offer families encouragement and support by listening to them and enabling them to link up with other families to share their experiences.
