Every two hours, someone in the UK will become paralysed. Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. At Spinal Research our vision is to create a world where paralysis can be cured, no matter when the injury occurred or where in the world.

Story

On 10th June 2018 whilst competing in the Ulster 100mile Time Trial I was hit from behind by an SUV , amongst many serious injuries I broke my spine in 4 places and severed spinal cord at level T12 which left me paralysed from the waist down. Following the care of the emergency services , the wonderful staff at Royal Victoria Hospital and Musgrave Park spinal unit and the support of my family and friends I survived and after just 3 months discharged to continue my rehab at home and almost 5 months post accident whilst I have a long journey ahead I am looking forward and planning a return to competition as a Para-triathlete one day and a return to Ironman racing.

In the process I would like to raise money to support Spinal research so that one day people can walk away from such injuries with a much greater quality of life than what is currently possible.

Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the support of the public to raise funds for our research. Because of the efforts of our supporters, we have funded innovative medical research that has achieved a number of ground breaking changes in the field.
