Story

Running the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2027 for Diabetes UK

In 2027, I’ll be taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Diabetes UK.

I’m doing this in support of a very special young man, the son of a dear friend, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 9 years old.

His diagnosis had a huge impact on all of us, especially his family. At such a young age, he had to learn how to inject himself with insulin several times a day. Watching a 9-year-old face something so challenging with such bravery was truly inspiring. With the love and support of his mum, he quickly learned how to manage his condition and adapted to a completely new way of life.

After three years of daily injections, he was able to move onto an insulin pump, making day-to-day life a little easier while still carefully monitoring his blood sugar levels with adult support.

What inspires me most is that diabetes has never defined him or stopped him from chasing his dreams. He is a bright, determined, and incredibly sporty young man who regularly takes part in competitions, winning medals along the way. He is also a member of the cadets, and his dream is to become a pilot one day. His diagnosis has never held him back, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything he has achieved.

I am incredibly proud of the young man he has become. His courage, resilience and positive attitude have inspired me to take on this challenge, and every mile I run will be for him and for everyone living with Type 1 diabetes.

By supporting my fundraiser, you’ll be helping Diabetes UK continue its vital work funding research, supporting families and improving the lives of people affected by diabetes.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference.

Thank you so much for your support, encouragement and generosity. Together, we can help create a brighter future for everyone affected by diabetes.
