There are no limits to the types of the trauma that we witness through our work with refugees and asylum seekers in Greece, but one that remains amongst the most painful to experience is seeing children robbed of their childhoods, living in a state of fear and instability.
After fleeing their home countries under tragic circumstances, losing a parent or both to violent deaths, surviving the perilous life-threatening journey to Greece, witnessing their fellow travellers drown or get shot at checkpoints and border crossings. They get no respite; as soon after their arrival, they are transferred to detention centres, placed in unsafe camps, or find themselves sleeping rough in the cold streets of Athens.
All unsafe environments for children, exposing them to the risks of being targeted by human traffickers, sexual exploitation, and extended trauma.
Help us reunify children with surviving family members. Your sponsorship will help children to shed their traumas this Christmas.
