Story
Hi all,
Most of you know I have had epilepsy from birth. Unlike my husband Chris, I am not an athlete:) but I would like to make a fresh start this New Year - do more exercise, loose some weight and raise some money for a charity that we are both connected with.
So this year, I am taking part in Epilepsy Society's January Challenge 100 to help raise awareness. 1 in a 100 people have epilepsy, most are effected daily by taking medication to help control their seizures, however in many cases this is not possible. Around 1,200 people lose their lives to epilepsy every year.
The UK Epilepsy Society funds research, advice and support. Over my life I have called them many times for medical advice. When I have been unwell, Chris has called the support helpline for reassurance and helped him personally, which has been incredible for his own mental wellbeing. So this charity is personally very close to both of us.
Any donation that you are able to make will help them to continue their incredible work and will spur me on throughout my challenge! £24 can pay for one of their trained operators to support a caller with concerns relating to living with epilepsy. £50 can help to prepare examples for crucial genetic testing, bringing us closer to groundbreaking discoveries. £100 allows the Epilepsy Society to store and test whole genomes for 5 people. Paving the way for personalised treatments.
So I am committed to walking, running or swimming 100 miles this January to support the Epilepsy Society and it would be great if you could donate just a few coins. It is a national event with nearly 700 participants this year.
Many thanks,
