North West Blood Bikes provide a voluntary out of hours transport service to the NHS to carry emergency blood, samples, donor breast milk for premature babies, doctors’ notes and urgently required theatre equipment, between hospitals throughout the night, weekends and bank holidays

Story

Last September I chanced upon the Deloitte Ride Across Britain  and was inspired to ride it.  I knew I would need to spend many hours in the saddle training, especially weekends.  I challenged Colette to ride with me and she accepted the challenge.  So, since last October we've been training hard and increasing our mileage, from 20 miles per week to 200+.

On this event we will be riding on average 109 miles per day over 9 days, through and over iconic landmarks- Cheddar Gorge, Severn Bridge, Shap Fell, Forth road Bridge and the Cairngorms. We also pass within a mile of our house at the halfway point(Crook of Lune).

We would like a local charity to benefit from our efforts and The North west Blood Bikes was an obvious choice.  Working in the NHS, specifically Royal Lancaster Infirmary Theatres, we use the Blood bike service almost daily. Their volunteers provide a vital link between our local hospitals, delivering emergency blood and equipment.  It is a fantastic charity that directly and mostly unsung, benefits the community of Morecambe Bay and Lake District.

Thank you for your support, Martin and Colette
