What am I doing?

After now two rescheduled dates being thwarted by injury, I am hopeful of completing the run on Friday the 9th of June

I have decided to attempt to run the 134 mile length of the John Muir Way from Dunbar in the east of Scotland, to Helensburgh in the West. In the process I will be attempting to set a new FKT (Fastest Known Time) by completing the run in under 24 hours – and it will all be in aid of a charity that is very close to my heart.

Why am I doing it?

My father passed away on 16th July 2021 after a long battle with prostate cancer. My dad was always extremely proud of everything that I have achieved, and would always attend races and ask me what I had planned next. It seems fitting that the biggest challenge I have undertaken will be in his honour, raising money for a charity that were incredibly good to him. The Beatson are also currently treating my mother-in-law and have been incredibly supportive to the whole family, so we have a lot to thank them for.

The Challenge

The challenge of running the length of the John Muir Way will be difficult – and doing so in under 24 hours will be extremely difficult. However, I hope to at least complete it, even if it is not necessarily within the time that I have set for myself. I will of course need to rely on the support from family and friends. I’ll also need mobile support that can meet me at certain checkpoints to provide me with the right fluids and nutrition. I’m also calling upon my running friends to join me for certain parts of the journey. One of the advantages of running from the East to the West is that I live in West Scotland – so the further, and more tired I become, there will hopefully be more friends and family available to cheer me on.
All in all though, Helensburgh is only 10 miles from where I live, so essentially, I am running home, just taking one great big adventure to get there
