Shine Night Walk 2017 · 23 September 2017 ·
On the evening of September 23rd I'm undertaking potentially my most difficult challenge yet - the Shine Walk.
Basically, I'm walking a full marathon (26.2 miles) overnight in London to help fund the life-saving work carried out by Cancer Research.
It'll be tough, it'll take me until mid-morning the next day to complete, you can be sure it'll rain all night and my notoriously temperamental toes will hate me for it (!) but if my efforts can raise even a few pounds for such a worthy cause then it'll have been more than worth it!
And, as a T2 Diabetic, I have requested that anything I raise be directed towards research into fighting pancreatic cancer, one of the more dangerous forms of cancer.
It has been known for some time that there is a connection between Type 2 Diabetes and Pancreatic Cancer, but it is difficult to detect because there usually aren't any symptoms until late in the disease.
Indeed, recent research has shown that only 4% of people receiving a diagnosis survive for five years or more.
So whilst it'll be an adventure to complete the walk, and I'll have fun, I'll also not lose sight of just why I'm doing this.
