Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is an x-ray of my daughter’s spine – her name is Gracie and she is currently 12 years old. It doesn’t take a trained eye to spot that Gracie’s spine is curved due to scoliosis. As a result, the past year has caused a roller-coaster of emotions for us. Following her diagnosis, Gracie had a bespoke body brace made to support her back to prevent any further curvature. The brace has to be
worn 23 hours a day and the numerous heatwaves in 2022 proved to be unbearable for her. Gracie has been regimental with wearing her brace, but it has not stopped her spine from curving further.

As you can imagine, the news that the brace has not prevented the curve
from progressing was hugely disappointing. Gracie has another check-up next
month to measure any further movement and to decide the next course of action.

Despite all of these setbacks, I am so proud of Gracie’s positivity and resilience and she eventually became brave enough to incorporate her body brace as a fashion accessory! Her bravery extends to giving me consent to publish this post for a good cause.

It is for these reasons that I am running the TCS London Marathon on 23 April 2023 for Scoliosis Association UK. This charity provides a wealth of information and support for those suffering with scoliosis and it aims to raise awareness among health professionals and the general public.

Despite running a smattering of half-marathons over the past few years, this is my first marathon. I will have Gracie firmly in mind when the going gets tough and, hopefully, I will have the same grit and determination as her to keep pushing on regardless.
