Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 1983, while taking part in an organised mountain walking challenge, 2 friends and myself were descending from the summit of Pen Y Fan, when I stumbled and fell over a ledge and fell some 60 feet onto some rocks below. One of my friends stayed with me while my other friend went to raise the alarm. A while later the Bridgend Mountain rescue team led by Mike Ruddal, the team's founder member, reached me. Whilst carrying out an examination and assessment of my injuries, there was a large rockfall above us. Mike threw himself across me to protect me from the rocks but was swept off me and over ledge below us. Tragically Mike lost his life and without a doubt saved mine. For this I will be forever truly grateful. The rest of the team continued to tend to me and some hours later facilitated my removal from the mountain via the Search and Rescue helicopter.
The team continue to do amazing work and are always on hand when people get in difficulty in the mountains and also when any search team is required whether that be in the mountains or urban areas.
Like many organisations they rely heavily on donations in order to maintain the standards of service they can offer, so after securing places through the ballots in the Virgin London Marathon and the Prudential Ride London, I thought this was an ideal opportunity to try and raise some funds for the team.
