Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This is our 3rd year taking part in the RUST BUCKET RALLY, which runs from 3rd thru 6th June. We will be driving a new car to us, a 2004 Mercedes SLK (although Rusty is still going strong) around Europe for 4 days, covering 2500 miles thru France, Germany, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Italy, Netherlands & Belgium.

The RUST BUCKET RALLY nominates a chosen charity every year. However this year, due to the pandemic, there will be 2. The charities are PROSTaid and We Mind & Kelly Matters. Martin & Nigel are raising for PROSTaid - a local charity that funds three Prostate cancer nurses in the East Midlands. Two nurses are based in Leicester, and a newly funded PROSTaid nurse at Northampton General Hospital, covering both Oncology & Urology departments.

PROSTaid fund more Prostate cancer specialist nurses than anywhere in the NHS! The cost to fund the Northampton nurse , over a 3 year period, is almost £70,000. A huge financial commitment. The charity receive no government support and rely totally upon donations to carry out their valuable work.

PROSTaid raise public awareness of the disease to ensure local men are diagnosed earlier, ensuring a better outcome. They offer vital support during diagnosis and treatment; and also to patients with advanced Prostate cancer. Additionally, they provide new innovative treatments, testing and equipment.

Early in 2019, Martin was diagnosed with Prostate cancer when he didn't have ANY symptoms. After a successful operation followed by radiotherapy, he is now fully recovered. Martin was lucky that the diagnosis was caught at an early stage. Not everyone is as lucky, which is where the fantastic nurses are required. If you could please make a donation, no matter how small, via JustGiving, it will be very gratefully received.
