Highland Cross 2023 · 17 June 2023 ·

Highland Cross is a 50 mile duathlon (walking or running 20 miles and cycling 30 miles) across Scotland from Kintail to Beauly. The event is organised by volunteers to raise funds for charities across the Highlands. Since 1983, over £6.3m has been raised and distributed in full to deserving causes.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It's a gentle run through the hillside followed by a nice wee seat on a bike for the final 30 miles back to Beauly, At least that's what I was first told about it.

The Highland Cross is one of the most drama filled events I've done, and I'm looking forward to the "challenge" once more. I have done this event four times before but the memories (nightmares) have subsided so I'm looking to create some new ones - who knows I might even spot the waterfall this year!?!

It would mean a lot to me and my team "Oh what have we done?" if you could donate a little (or a lot) towards this cause. Just think of it as you're paying for my torture and consider how much that's worth!?

For those that don't know about The Highland Cross event it starts on the west coast amid a stunning backdrop of the five sisters of Kintail (unless it's raining, then its miserable). It weaves its way for twenty (yep that was 20) miles on trails through the hills, over hills, over bridges, through rivers and through Glen Affric. Once that easy bit is over I'll be jumping on a bike (unfortunately not motorised) to cycle the remaining 30 undulating miles to Beauly.

From The Highland Cross Website:
Highland Cross is a 50-mile duathlon (20 miles on foot, 30 miles on bike) traversing the spectacular Scottish Highlands coast to coast, west to east from Kintail through Glen Affric and Strathglass to Beauly.

Highland Cross exists to raise money for causes that benefit the people of Highland, disadvantaged by disability, ill health or social need.

Entry to the Highland Cross is by invitation only for 265 teams of 3 (795 persons) of all athletic abilities; walkers, joggers, runners and cyclists. Teams must pledge to raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship for the charities nominated by Highland Cross.
