Sleepouts are a sponsored event where participants can get an insight into what street homelessness is like for the people who live like that everyday. They are designed to give an idea of what it's like to sleep rough without the risk.

Story

Many vulnerabilities can lead to homelessness which in turn increases vulnerability hugely.  I’ve been privileged to have a career that’s provided many opportunities to be involved in helping to tackle homelessness and its causes, and humbled by the stories and experiences shared with me.

Over the past few years I’ve witnessed the unstinting commitment of organisations and colleagues in the voluntary sector and their tireless work making a real difference to people’s lives - their leadership in bringing statutory agencies together to deliver solutions, but most of all their relentless focus on, and support for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.  Turning Tides is just such an organisation.

I’m extremely grateful to be offered this opportunity to gain an insight, even if for one night, into the challenge and reality of living without a home - and hope to encourage those who know me to help in raising much needed funding for those in our communities for who this is a reality as we head into winter.  Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.  Martin Pannell

About the charity
