Story
Hi there
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
If you have landed on this page you are probably already aware my big sister, Emma, sadly passed away in November 2013 of Bowel Cancer. In memory of Emma I will be running the 2014 Bupa Great North Run to raise money for Beating Bowel Cancer. This charity does amazing work to support those suffering with Bowel Cancer as well as their families. Their support network provided great comfort to Emma and I would like to raise money so that they can continue to provide such services to other individuals and families affected by this terrible disease.
If you know me then you probably know that stamina events are not my forte and I am more comfortable swanning around a badminton court. So wish me luck tackling this half marathon, the first long distance run I have ever done, because I'm going to need it :-).
Thank you for your support, the family and I really appreciate it.
Martin / Sharpey
P.S. You may have seen that my wife Gemma also raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support earlier this year when she completed the Great North Swim in Windermere. A staggering £630 was raised and Gemma achieved a fantastic time, all this with baby Sharpe on board (albeit that we didn't know this at the time). Macmillan nurses were also of great support to Emma and the family and any donations will help them to continue this great service. Gemma's page can be found here and I believe is still accepting donations:

I would like to publicly thank Gemma for all the support she has given me and the family over these extremely trying times. I can't imagine ever coping without you. xxx
P.P.S.
My great friend Jonny is also taking part in the Great North Run and fund raising for Beating Bowel Cancer in memory of my sister. The family and I are extremely grateful for his support and personally I could not wish for a more caring and supportive friend. If anyone would like to donate to Jonny's page it can be found here:

Thanks again mate.
P.P.P.S.
Love you always "big sis". Your courageousness will always be an inspiration to me. xxx
