In time Parkinsons will take away your smile, your balance, your sense of smell, your ability to walk, your ability to swallow, it often leads to depression and it may eventually take your life. But it doesn’t only affect you, it affects your family and friends too...it is a life sentence.
Parkinsons is an incurable neurological disease and I was diagnosed 4 years ago......
It has been over 50 years that sufferers have relied on one drug, Levedopa - it’s not a cure, it only has a small timeframe of usefulness (about 5 years) and it only treats the symptoms and has some horrible side effects so, whilst I can still walk, I’m committed to long-distance walks in order to raise money in the search for a cure.
In 2016 Dave Clark and I walked 220 miles from the Irish Sea to the North Sea in 13 days, in 2017 Mandi, Josh and myself walked the West Highland way and on day ten climbed Ben Nevis and then last year with Dave, the wonderful Claire Addison and my amazing wife Mandi we nailed the Dalesway in Six days on the hoof! Having raised over £300,000 so far we’re not done yet....
Walking is a constant challenge for people with Parkinson’s....so whilst Parkinsons will take many things from us and our families it will not take our determination and willpower...together we WILL defeat it, we WILL find a cure.
“Walk on, walk on.......”
Please give as generously as you can and, as we are walking close to London there is every opportunity for you to join us for an hour, a day or even the whole seven days and over a hundred miles from Winchester to Eastbourne.
Thanks for reading,
Your total contribution will go straight to Parkinsons UK, a wonderful organisation, populated by fantastic and driven people and a charity with a remarkable technological arm, which investigates new cures by the week with their remarkable virtual biotech initiative.
Much love and I’ll hope to see you in Winchester.....please find the itinerary below.
