Bramhope Cranks Cycling Club, Jamie Peacock and Kevin Sinfield are embarking upon the 108-mile Struggle bike-ride in the Yorkshire Dales on 23rd May to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND Association), inspired by Leeds Rhinos Rugby legend Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2019. They will be supported by friends from Bramhope Cranks Cycling Club.

Motor neurone disease affects approximately 5000 people in the UK. It is a severely life-shortening condition which currently has no cure, and has a devastating impact on the body. As the condition progresses, people with motor neurone disease will find some or all of their daily activities increasingly difficult. Eventually, they become impossible.

The Cranks idea to take on this ambitious (some may say crazy?) feat comes on the back of Kevin Sinfield’s 7 in 7 challenge, which saw him complete 7 marathons in 7 days for his good friend Rob. After a brief recovery period, he’s ready to join the team as they tackle the next venture. The route features 7 big climbs, in celebration of Rob’s long career playing as 7 for the Rhinos.

The work of the MND Association is to help the individuals and their families, like Rob’s, who are affected with this disease receive person-centred care, close to their homes. The MND Association also funds vital research which will eventually find a cure to this illness, and would mean thousands in the future could be given their lives back. The coronavirus pandemic has halted a lot of fundraising efforts for the MND Association, which means your money has never been more important.
