Martina & Kleo’s haircut for charity! · 31 October 2019

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions. The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.

Story

Hello!

I’m Kleo, a medical student in London and this is the second time I’m growing my hair out for the little princess trust (it might be my last attempt for a while as clinical years aren’t the best years to have crazy long hair..)

I did the same thing three years ago, and come October I’ll be having my hair cut and donated.. hopefully I’ll be able to give at least 24.5” like I did then!

As you can imagine, growing out my hair to this crazy length on clinical placements hasn’t been easy. It was difficult even before medical school and it certainly has been more challenging having to do surgery hours whilst caring for my long hair. The extra shampoo time and time to dry my hair whilst already falling asleep upright gave me more of a challenge than I anticipated...but I still think it’s a lovely thing to do, and a small inconvenience compared to the challenges the little children who are battling cancer face.

This time, I have a lovely friend, Martina who has kindly joined me on the same journey since last Christmas 😊

A note from Martina:

hi :)

I'm Martina and im 15, raised in London. this isnt the first time I've grown my hair out, but is the first time I'm doing it for charity.

by the time we cut our hair, I should be able to donate the 30cm to make a beautiful wig for a beautiful survivor. through summer and spring, it's been especially difficult to maintain the hair but it's all going to be worth it. with extra curricular and school, the time my hair takes to be sorted isnt as long as you would expect, but still enough to take a toll, obviously it's nothing compared to what the sweet angels of the princess trust face every day.

I'm honestly so excited to finally do this, to help in even the slightest way I can. I've wanted to do this for years and now with kleo's help I've got someone to do it with. this is going to be a huge change for the both of us but we cant wait to do it and have you go through the process with us too!

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people up to the age of 24 that have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses. The Trust relies solely on the efforts of enthusiastic community fundraisers. We receive no formal funding. Please help to raise money for us so that we can help more families.
