Story
Alan Biggar is gearing up for an ambitious, two week drive around the UK in his vintage Morgan sports car, to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust’s East of Scotland Appeal in association with Cash for Kids. The drive will run this summer from 22 May to 6 June.
The road trip will see Alan motoring right across the whole country stopping off at the 20 Cash for Kids sites of our sister radio stations on the way, including stops in Inverness, Manchester, Hull, London, Brighton, Truro, Malvern, Preston and Glasgow.
Alan, former head of Brewin Dolphin’s Edinburgh office, is a patron of Teenage Cancer Trust and dedicated to helping the Trust reach its £1.6m target for the East of Scotland Appeal. The Drive will raise money for Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids charity with 75% of the total being donated to Teenage Cancer Trust’s East of Scotland Appeal. This is the second time Alan has taken to the road for the charity, the first time being his ‘Drive for Zoë’ in 2008. Over the last three years, Alan has raised a total of £201,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.
The Drive kicks off from the Scottish Motorfair at the Knockhill Racing Circuit in Fife on 22 May. To keep him company enroute, Alan will be joined by expert co-drivers Hugh Brown, Hugh McMinn, Aly Hunter and Simon Scott, and on the final leg of the Drive from Knockhill back to Edinburgh, Forth One's Boogie will be in the driving seat.
Teenage Cancer Trust receives no government funding and relies solely on voluntary donations. People are encouraged to support Alan in his UK wide tour by visiting him at his pit stops around the UK and give generously to help Teenage Caner Trust ensure every young person diagnosed with cancer has access to the specialist support it provides.
The £1.6 million raised will pay for a unit at the Western General Hospital for young people aged 17 and 24 years, aiming to be completed by 2011 and a unit at the New Children’s Hospital in Edinburgh for ages 13 to 16 years. This will replace the existing unit at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, which aims to open in 2015.
The Drive will be launched by artist John Lowrie Morrison at 1pm outside the Torrance Gallery, Edinburgh on Saturday 22 January. Alan will be joined by representatives from Teenage Cancer Trust, Radio Forth and former patients of the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Please donate as much as you can and help support Alan on his trip.
