Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've always tried to raise funds for worthy causes throughout my sporting career and have done many speaking events donating any fees to various charities. The opportunity to try and raise both funds and awareness of St Rocco's was afforded to me by my friend a next door neighbour (Ian McKinnon an ex St Rocco's dancer) and supporter of St Rocco's at last year's ball. I also work in Warrington, have visited St Rocco's so clearly understand the great work they do in the community. These two forces collided and hey presto I'm working hard not to embarrass myself by falling on my backside and getting all glittery for a fantastic cause.

I'm hoping it will be ultimately fulfilling for all concerned and that I can raise at least enough money to achieve my objective. This is all getting very serious and I'm dancing every week. It's hard work and terribly nerve racking. My stomach goes round in circles every time I think about it! In the dim and distant past I've played Hockey for England & Great Britain 178 times and won a Gold Medal at the Seoul Olympics in front of 50,000 people to boot. I can honestly say I wasn't this nervous at any point during my hockey playing career. Just shows what happens when you step out of your comfort zone! Fingers crossed we all get through it without falling on our backsides, everyone has a great time and we get to raise money for such a great a local organisation that I'm truly honoured to try and do something for.

St Rocco’s Hospice provides specialist care and support across Warrington, helping those who are coping with a life-limiting illness. It costs around £4.5 million each year to run the hospice – which means we need to raise £12,000 each and every day just to keep running.
