Nystagmus means involuntary movements of the eye. It impairs vision, affecting focus and depth perception. At least 1 in 1,000 babies are born with nystagmus. There is currently no cure. The Nystagmus Network is a UK registered charity which provides support, raises awareness and funds research.

Story

We are walking 34km from Corfe Castle to Weymouth along the Jurassic Coast footpath in aid of Nystagmus Network.  This is an area of the world which we both know very well having enjoyed childhood holidays in Dorset.

From Mary:

Whilst this is a challenging walk for anyone, having a number of eye conditions which leave me without meaningful depth perception and a questionable sense of balance means it is not the easiest walk for me (particularly that drop after Bat's Head or the Smuggler's path (and rock clambering) under White Nothe), but I love it.

And so, I have jumped at the chance to walk in the area I love to raise money for Nystagmus Network, a wonderful small charity of which I am a trustee, and which has helped me understand my own eyesight as well as helping to ensure all those diagnosed with nystagmus are supported to achieve their potential - just as I have been supported by all those around me (Jo being a continuing example of just that!).
