Hi Every One
I DID IT!! BUT IT WAS MUCH HARDER THAN ANTICIPATED
As I write this late Monday evening it already seems a lifetime ago, but yesterday I completed the Jane Tomlinson 10K in 72 minutes running all the way.
The event itself was great with over 11,000 runners of all abilities competing. Nell McAndrew opened it looking much smaller in real life than she did on the telly. Mike Tomlinson was mingling with runners. It all felt like a carnival to begin with.
The first 3K around town was a gentle jog since there were so many runners on the course. The next 6K was on the road out to Meanwood and back. Although the crowds thinned slightly this part was much harder. The morning was hot and there was no shade. As well as which I could not get into a running rhythm becasue so many people either bumping into me or else I was avoiding running into them. It was quite horrible.
The worst part was at 7.5 to 8K just before Sheepscar junction with the hill ahead. However thanks to my experienced running partner Marie I didn't stop. Also the thought of you who have sponsored and supported forced me on.
Would I do it again? Probably but I definitley need to build up more distance running before I do my next one.
Overall it was a very humbling experience thinking of how Jane Tomlinson must have felt as she achieved all she did.
So I want to thank you for supporting Jane's Appeal and me - you have made a big difference!
lots of love
mary
