24 Peaks Challenge - Lake District · 13 July 2019

ChallengeAid (CA) raises money through sponsored challenges in the UK. None of the money raised is used for admin purposes. With that money we create Schools of Hope in slums in East Africa to allow aspirational children, through education, to escape the cycle of poverty in which they are trapped.

Story

There was an ageing teacher of Psychology, two young Llandoverians, a fit Lance Corporal of Her Majesty's Armed Forces, and probably a few others. It may sound like the beginning an unlikely joke; instead, it's the beginning of a classic British mountain challenge. This improbable Llandovery Crew  will take on 24 Cumbrian Peaks (all above 2400 feet) of the Scafell Range (day 1 - July 13) and of the Helvellyn Range (day 2 - July 14) within 24 hours in total. The Lake District 24 Peaks Challenge covers a walking distance of 35 miles (56km) with 13,000ft of ascent (~ 4,000m).  A worthy challenge after last year's 'Welsh 3000 - 15 Peaks'.

Why ChallengeAid? Because it's a charity we trust implicitly. We know that all the money raised will  go where they are meant to  be going. Our aim is to help the charity to create more "Schools of Hope" in Nairobi  for aspirational young slum dwellers  who cannot attend school during the day due to family or work demands and so offer a complementary & alternative form of schooling.

And that's about it. For now.
