Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This year's Strathendrick RFC President's Cup Match will finally take place after a Covid-induced delay of 2 years. Originally scheduled for May 2019, we are rebooked for 21st May 2022. All money raised is donated directly to The Brain Tumour Charity, in solidarity with our friend and former player Dave Young, who is himself fighting a brain tumour with typical fortitude, humility and composure.

The President's Team will be made up of friends that Dave played rugby with and against throughout his career, played mostly at West of Scotland FC - where he was Club Captain - and Strathendrick RFC.

'West' legends Donnie Robertson and Dave McKee are going to deliver the match ball in an unconventional - and completely unnecessary - run from West (in Milngavie) to Strathendrick (in Fintry).

The Route
The run will be 15 miles, starting at West in Milngavie and running up and over the Campsie Fells, logging over 1,000ft of elevation. If there is any headwind or inclement weather whatsoever, this morphs from a challenging run to an experience where one can 'find one's self'.

Why
Donnie and Dave are doing this purely to raise funds for Dave's chosen charity, The Brain Tumour Charity. Donnie is kicking off the fundraising by donating £500 himself, presumably to ensure that he can't bail halfway, and we would be very grateful for any additional donations to spur them on and get them to Fintry in time for kick off.

We invite you to Fintry Sports Club on 21st May 2022 to watch Donnie and Dave arrive (maybe) with the Match Ball. The match itself will also be worth a watch and no doubt a source of mirth as ~50 decrepit players of yesteryear - who know better - will take to the field as the President's XV, taking on the current Strathendrick 1st XV.
