Our Challenge is to raise £30,000 for Children in Crisis (Reg Charity 1020488) and to undertake the first African Three Peaks Challenge, scaling Mt Londigo (2,700m), Mt Meru (4,450m) and finally Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895m) in October 2007.

The funds raised by us will help build a school for children living on the High Plateau around Minembwe in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

90% of schools were destroyed by rebel groups during the war in DRC and the conflict has deprived 4.6m (70%) children  of their education.

In recent years the situation is more peaceful although ongoing conflict has left many homes, hospitals and schools destroyed.  Basic healthcare and education provision is minimal and there is little intervention by the government.  The provision of these services has been left to local and international NGOs.

There is currently very little NGO activity on the High Plateau. Children in Crisis’ programme in DRC is focused on the High Plateau, in the Eastern Region, where they are working with Eben Ezer, a local organisation. There is a constant stream of people returning to live on the High Plateau and as such there is an increase in the number of primary school-aged children. The need to build schools is apparent.

The proposed school will teach approximately 240 children each year. Tables, chairs, training materials and stationary will be supplied for the first year after the school has been completed.

For these children, going to school will provide stability, structure and protection to those affected by the conflict. Your support will help this school become a reality. So please dig deep and sponsor us online.
