In 1922, insulin was first used to treat type 1 diabetes, proving for the first time that blood glucose could be managed and that living with the condition was possible.

Matilda was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on 27th August 2025, aged 7. Without the discovery of insulin treatment in 1922, we would now be living a very different life. Thankfully, her condition can now be managed via insulin delivered automatically via an insulin pump and monitored using a CGM sensor. In order to give something back and to help fund research I which could help others with this lifelong condition, Tilly will be doing 1,922 sit ups over the course of August.
