London Marathon 2023 - Team Autism · 23 April 2023 ·

The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.

Story

In June 2020 my beautiful daughter was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism, whilst in hospital for mental illness.  She was 17 when we had the formal diagnosis confirmed.

Our journey has been a difficult one as our daughter has struggled with mental illness since 2018.  Spending nearly 3 years in hospital since late 2019, she is continuing her journey now to return home.  She has now been in hospital since April 2021.

One of the key elements and challenges that we have faced as parents is the lack of support and understanding of ASD in mental hospital settings. We have no doubt that if the environment would be better suited to our daughters autism need, she would have been home a long time ago.

I am personally taking the challnege of running the London Marathon to help raise both vital funds to help others, and to also use my platform to help raise greater awareness and support to those who are struggling.

Thank you so much for your support.   You kindness and generosity is gratefully appreciated.
