Sahara Rocks 2022 · 8 November 2022

We raise funds to support charities like Canteen and Nelune Foundation with projects such as patient transport vehicles, adolescent cancer care, prostate cancer equipment and the establishment of a bone marrow transplant unit at POW Hospital Randwick. To date since 2007 LHSFA has raised over $100k.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our Australian JustGiving page.

In November this year, Julie and I will be travelling to Morocco with the Love Hope Strength Foundation to participate in their Sahara Rocks fundraising trek, which aims to raise over US$45,000 for cancer care projects in Africa through this epic challenge.

LHS is a rock 'n' roll cancer charity that I first got involved with in 2007, trekking to Everest Base Camp where two times cancer survivor Mike Peters (of The Alarm) played the highest gig in the world along with a group of 80s rock stars in front of an audience of cancer survivors and other supporters.  The Everest Rocks trek raised not only awareness but funded equipment for the Bhaktapur Cancer Centre in Kathmandu including Nepal's first mammography machine.

In 2008 I trekked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with LHS on Peru Rocks and then in 2009 I met my wife Julie in Africa on the Kilimanjaro Rocks trek that funded the building of a children's cancer ward in Tanzania.

Originally scheduled for 2020, it will now be 15 years since the first Everest Rocks trek and 13 years (and 2 kids) since Julie and I were able to join Mike & Jules Peters on one of their annual fundraising treks.

We will be covering all our own costs, so every pound/dollar donated will go directly to funding LHS's cancer care projects.  Please give generously but even the smallest donation will make a difference.

Cheers
Matt & Julie

About Love Hope Strength
LHS was co-founded by acclaimed musician Mike Peters, who aims to save lives, one concert at a time, and give hope to families affected by cancer. The money raised through Sahara Rocks will support healthcare projects in Africa to help make LHS vision of a better world for people with cancer a reality. Over the past decade LHS has established the 'Get On The List' programme to help people with a blood cancer who need a second chance of life. To date LHS has registered over 200,000 people to international stem cell donor registries. Over 4,000 of those who've registered have been identified as potentially lifesaving matches. Over £1m has been raised globally to help support some of the most vulnerable people affected by cancer. LHS has equipped hospitals and community cancer services with new facilities and equipment in parts of the UK, US, Africa and Asia.  LHS AU was set up  in 2007 as a sister organisation to LHS US & UK. To date we have raised over AU$100k to support cancer care projects in Australia.
