Matt Breckon is raising money for Bowel Cancer UK

September Challenge Month · 30 September 2022

We’re the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. We’re determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. Our vision is a future where nobody dies of the disease.

Story

My brother Philip was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer in May 2022. After emergency surgery to remove a tumour he is now receiving Immunotherapy treatment to hopefully shrink the remaining cancer. Thanks to groundbreaking research by Bowel Cancer UK he’s on the best treatment path possible with a positive outlook.

I have decided to complete several personal challenges, one each weekend of September:

04/09- vitality half marathon

11/09-The Big Brutal Swim in Snowdon (10k lake swim)

17/09 Serpentine Swim 3k race  (Hyde Park)

24/09- Hever Castle Swim (5km open water swim)

The challenges aim to raise money to help continue the incredible research and support they offer. Philip is receiving a relatively new type of cancer treatment, one that has only been used in the last year for Bowel Cancer treatment - this would not be possible without the incredible work that Bowel Cancer UK do and all the trials they complete to ensure they have many different treatment options for patients.

Bowel Cancer U.K. is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. They fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care. They are here to stop people dying of bowel cancer.
