Story
The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM run a free and confidential helpline and webchat 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who needs to talk about lifes problems.
Since Brads story became public we have been thinking of ways to raise more awareness on the sensitive issue of male suicides. Mental health has impacted all of us in various ways throughout our lives. Whether it has been depression, the loss of loved ones or just feeling low. We felt that we should use the message of Brads recent troubles and try to get some positivity and good feeling out of what was a really dark time for all those connected.
Of course not everyone is a lucky as Brad and we also wanted to honour the memory of friends like Toby and Lee. The tragedy of both stories not only affected so many family and friends at the time, but also highlighted the issues men under 45 face daily.
Local footballing legend Lee Pennycuick was one of lifes genuine "one offs" a real character and a great friend to all, he is sorely missed by so many.
Toby Allnutt was the life and soul of the party who had an amazing job and was surrounded, like Lee by a loving family and so many close friends who loved them both dearly.
It shows that depression doesn't discriminate and it isn't a case of just "manning up" and getting on with things. This silent killer needs to be attacked head on and hopefully through this and the many other events like this. We can all raise some money, raise some awareness and have a few laughs and smiles.
The main hope is that this football match will offer some light at the end of the tunnel for so many. After lock-down has eased and we return to normality, Any support or donation you can spare will go towards this amazing charity, that does so much for so many.
Its ok to not be ok and you're not alone.
