Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
31 years ago, (at aged 13) My Dad helped me put an idea into practice to raise a little bit of money for the RSPCA, it was a simple little sponsored bike ride, on my own, one Sunday morning.
So, with copious amounts of foam padding taped to the solid plastic seat of my brand new (fixed gear!) BMX , I set off from our family home in Brayton, to the Selby Fork hotel roundabout at the old A1 and back again - a little over 15 miles, Dad and one of his friends from work following closely behind. I think I raised about £25 from friends and family :o)
Now, all these years on, in memory of Dad, who lost his fight with pancreatic cancer last year, I wish to recreate that same bike-ride, AND to make it a little different than just a simple bike ride out I shall be doing it on the same size and style of BMX that I did it on originally, albeit a considerable few stone heavier.
I shall be setting off from outside the same address where we lived at the time and taking the same route, with a slight variation to the original which will involve a stop where Dad is resting, to let him how I'm getting on, and then onwards to the finish at Mums house for a well earned drink.
I would be most humbled if anyone would like to either join me, or make a small donation on my page here, or both! This will not be a road race nor an epic endurance ride, remember that I'm a fat lad on a kids bike! It will be a very steady ride-out on a (hopefully) lovely Sunday afternoon. Alternatively if you would like to join in for just a small section of the ride you would be most welcome.
The details of the route I took 31 years ago, and again on 24th July (including the few miles extra to bring it as close as possible to a 20mile round trip) can be found by copying and pasting the link below.

Plans are to set off at 12.00am from the junction of Parkways and Baffam gardens. YO8 9BB.
Many many thanks again for taking time to read this, many many lives are touched by the loss of a loved one through cancer, only through fundraising - whatever the amount, can we help.
Matt.
