Story
Big thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Hopefully the following will explain the reasons as to why I want to run 50miles (if only for my long suffering wife's sake!)
Firstly, its fair to say that the last 5 months has been very difficult for me (and therefore my family) health-wise. Ive been experiencing seizures on a nightly basis and have as yet had a diagnosis for my condition. Basically I no longer sleep unless of course I am pumped full of medication, but either way normal day to day life has changed dramatically due to this, I am just hoping soon that they can find out what is wrong and I can be back to functioning like a reasonably normal human again.
Sorry to bore you with that bit, however it helps me get to the point of why I am doing this! During the last 5 months, along with the help of my family the only other thing that keeps me sane is running. I started running in August 2013 and it has become a real passion for me. I have found it has helped to clear my mind and give me respite in the times ive felt very low, although I will just add that running whilst under the influence of very strong prescribed medication is not advisable for a multitude of reasons! Back in June I ran a 35 mile Ultra, and swore I would never do it again, it was agony, but since then running has become so important for me and the chance to challenge myself to run further has giving me something to focus on and strive for during a difficult time. can I run that far? I dont know but i'll certainly try.
The great thing about doing an event like this is that I get the chance to offer my support to a local charity or organisation. For the 35 mile Ultra I ran to raise money for Gretton Primary School and for this race I will be supporting The Travers Foundation. I feel very strongly that young people who are determined and work hard to achieve success in their lives, should be given as much help and assistance possible. Sadly not everyone with talent and potential has the access to funds or external help to give them the extra step they may need, therefore the work that The Travers Foundation does to give these people the opportunities to realise their goals and dreams, whether in sports or the arts is so important.
Its my pleasure to give support to an exceptional local charity and all donations will be very gratefully received. For more info about The Travers Foundation please visit http://www.travers-foundation.org.uk/
Thanks again, Matt
