Thank you very much for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This was initially a challenge that we set ourselves to see what we could achieve, but we recently realised that it would be remiss of us to not let a great and worthwhile cause benefit from our efforts, so we have set up this page with the hope that the harder we train, the more positive an impact we can make for others in need too. TAMBA (Twins & Multiple Births Association) is very close to Stew's heart and he'd be very happy to tell you why if you ever wanted to know...
So, what and why are we doing this?....
After realising our weekly fitness session had swiftly turned into going to the pub instead, we promised ourselves that in 2019 we would set ourselves straight and go from 0% to 100% by taking on the infamous 'Decathlon' and enter/compete in the British Masters Championships in June.
Having started training in January this year, we've made good progress and are training, collectively, about 9 times a week. A bit better than before :) With Matt being a qualified athletics coach & personal trainer, and Stew being an actor & filmmaker, we've had the right set of skills to help us technically in the events and also to have been able to document it all on video, of which some is already on Instagram ( @notsobigfilms and @balance_fitness_and_dance ) and ultimately will be made into our own documentary to be able to show the children and grand-children how silly we were!
Having not competed in athletics for 20+ years, it's been a quick learning curve, especially as pole vault isn't really taught in school!....
The events are: 100m, 110m hurdles, 400m, 1500m, long jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, javelin, and shot put.
We also mustn't forget Jacqui (Matt's wife) who is also competing in the Heptathlon this year (7 events). This is her fourth one now, so she's the pro, and really showing us how it's done!
We really hope that our silly films make you smile and that you know we'll be working even harder now that TAMBA have a chance to get some vital funds from your support!
Here's a little highlights reel to show you some of our progress and training so far, enjoy :)
Matt and Stew (and Jacqui too!)
