Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. I'm taking part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride (54 miles) with my friend Kai, Uncle Paul, and Jack and Josh from 8th Worthing Sea Scouts on 15th June (Fathers' Day) to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

My dad was born in 1975 with a hole in his heart. Before the BHF was formed in 1961 most babies born with this died. Since the BHF was formed most babies born with this survive. 9 in 1000 babies are still born with this. My dad's hole was successfully fixed when he was 8 months old thanks to the BHF. Without the BHF my dad wouldn't have survived and I wouldn't be here!

For 25 years my dad was well above average fitness excelling at every sport he did, especially football. Then in 2000 he went for a routine knee operation, unaware of any issues with his heart, and was told he had an irregular heart beat and needed a pacemaker.

On 15 April last year with no warning my dad suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, sadly passed away. His condition was regularly monitored and remained under control so we never expected something like this to happen.

Heart disease is the uk's biggest killer. Around one third of all deaths in the UK are caused by this. The British Heart Foundation is the UK's number one heart charity. Im raising money for the British Heart Foundation because the work and research saves lives everyday.
