The Fred Whitton Challenge · 8 May 2022
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was taking part in this event a few years ago but, unfortunately, I came off my bike two weeks before and injured myself quite badly. The air ambulance came out to me that day... fortunately they didn't actually have to pick me up and the normal ambulance was enough. I did fracture a couple of bones and badly hurt my neck and hand, so I could not take part that year. I am happy to say that all is fixed and I am going to train and do the ride again.... this time to raise funds for the North West Air Ambulance Service.
The 'Fred Whitton Challenge' takes part in the Lake District and is one of the most difficult cycling sportive's in Europe.... it has been dubbed 'the Daddy of them all' by cycling weekly. The length of the ride is 113 miles with 3500 metres of climbing, taking in all 10 of the largest road climbs in the Lakes (one with a gradient of 30%). It's a really tough ride and should take me between 8 and 11 hours.
Please give generously... they do an amazing job and the service gets no government funding and relies on donations and fundraising to keep providing their service.
