London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
I am very thankful of the opportunity to run the 2019 London Marathon in support of Sarcoma UK.
In 2015 my wife Susan was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, Embryno Rhabdomyosarcoma. Thankfully after surgery and a course of chemotherapy Susan has been in remission for nearly 3 years. We are very grateful to the staff at The Royal Marsden for their wonderful care. We are also hugely grateful for all the help our friends and family have us as we going through this very difficult time.
It is a great privilege for me to run a marathon (and have a proper excuse to do some extra running!) in support of Sarcoma UK. With your help I would like to do my part to raise money to help the research and support that this great organisation provides, as well as to raise general awareness of Sarcoma. This is also in the knowledge that Susan’s Sarcoma could reoccur one day.
I don’t think I had heard of Sarcoma before Susan was diagnosed. Sarcoma is a rare cancer which makes up 1% of UK cancer diagnoses, about 15 people a day. It mainly effects soft tissues or bones and can occur anywhere in the body. There are over 100 different types of Sarcomas. Susan’s Sarcoma was particularly rare. Sarcoma can be particularly difficult to diagnose and treat, and Sarcoma UK does great work to help the medical professionals and patients who are dealing with this disease. Please check out their web page for further information.
