Story
My dear Mum was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (diffuse large B-cell) just over 12 months ago and after intense chemo and other cancer battling drugs she was given the wonderful 'all clear' news last Easter.
Sadly the good news didn't last long as Mum's cancer had returned and she was given the diagnosis just before Christmas 2015. Many of you who know my Mum will not be surprised by her bravery, stubbornness, determination and wise of humour in making a full recovery.
I was fortunate enough to take my Mum to hospital for one of her last appointments 'first-time round' and saw not only how beautifully the Macmillan nurses and doctors were with her, but also the reception staff and even the old chap who volunteered his time making cups of tea for the cancer patients who were in the waiting room. Mum was on first-name terms with all and sundry like she had known them for years! Typical Mum...friend to everyone! The warmth, friendship and support was in abundance which helped me feel better about Mum being looked after throughout her treatment.
Macmillan are angels and provide support, advice and comfort to cancer warriors as well as their loved ones. I'd like to raise some money and do a spot of cycling along the Brecon Beacons as a 'thank you' for their continued help in treating my Mum. Hopefully more good news is not far away and that this time it's here to stay.
Please help me to show appreciation to Macmillan by supporting me in embarking on the Dragon Ride L’Etape Wales by le Tour de France 2016. This beast takes place on Sunday June 5th, starting at Port Talbot at 6am for a 153km jaunt along, through, up and down the picturesque Brecon Beacons. I have no idea how long it'll take me as I've never cycled that distance in one go before! Particularly with the 'Le Tour' approved route which means nasty inclines and plenty of them! It'll be a journey of self discovery for sure and hopefully not too many punctures!
Thank you to one and all in advance and big love to you all! Xx
