Strictly Agents Dancing · 25 April 2017
Having seen John Sargent many years ago dragging his
professional dancer across the floor like a sack of potatoes, I have always quietly felt I could do better – well, a little better! However I never thought I would actually ‘strut my stuff’ for an audience. As my wife Maxine won the Strictly Agents Charity Dance competition last year I thought I could sit back and bathe in her reflected glory – but no. I was badgered and nagged by the whole team to take part – after all, it is for charity!
So now is my chance – gulp!
I recognise that I don't naturally have the build ('undertall' for my weight), muscle tone (erm, none!) or poise (natural slouch) required.
I am hoping the great dancing team at Wright Rhythm in Enfield can work some magic on the raw material that is me!
I have had a couple of lessons, where they have tried to show me some ‘simple basic’ steps. Oh dear. I can’t remember the basic and simple, let alone also get the arms, hands, feet, head, hips, timing, posture and expression right at the same time. I thought all I’d have to do is reconcile myself to the inevitable glitter, plus the prospect of the compulsory chest waxing. How wrong was I?!
So why am I putting myself up for such humiliation? Last year Maxine raised over £4k when she took part. I doubt I can beat her dancing, but I am well motivated to beat her fundraising!
I am fundraising jointly for Agents Giving and Carers Trust Cambridgeshire. I want to raise at least £7k which will mean we can fully fund a holiday for 10 young carers who would not otherwise get a break. Having met some of these young carers, trust me, they need and deserve a break.
So I lose my dignity and self-esteem, plus put myself through hours of training; all I ask is that you dig deep to support these great charities!
