NSPCC- a charity doing outsanding community work
So, it all started when Holly (my wife) challenged me to do 25 miles in one month- February 2018, I got carried away and pushed myself to do 9.3 miles in one evening. Typical Lovejoy style I paid the next day and entered the Portsmouth Coastal Marathon (26.2 miles).
After entering I realised there are strict rules of completing in under 6 hours or getting kicked off the course due to tide times! Also, I get to run the same route to Hayling Island from the pyramids there and back so psychologically will have that in the back of mind on the way to the half way point.
Also, a minor detail- it kicks off on 23rd December at 8.05am- what was I thinking!!!
Straight after booking this my boss James Oliver helpfully pointed out this is like Tough Mudder times 3! But don't worry I have the minerals and my pride won't let me fail now!!!!
I am currently obsessing over having the correct gear (whilst having no idea!) and gearing up for my next long run to see just how far I can get before hitting the famous wall!
Although, I am training hard for the next 10 months and have bought equipment I didn't think I ever would (men's running tights) and have paid for the entry myself.
I am doing it out of respect and gratitude for the hard work and dedication the NSPCC team put in day in day out and hope to maximise the impact this donation has on children subjected to cruelty that can be prevented/ resolved with skilled interventions. Assessing what is best for children and their families must be challenging and certainly warrants financial backing in my eyes. My goal of £1000 is overly ambitious but it's best to have ambition- this is your only limitation.
LETS DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!
