London Landmarks Half Marathon 2018 · 25 March 2018 ·
Hello friends.
I’ve decided to enter the new London landmarks half marathon race in March 2018 and i am hoping to raise some valuable money for the wonderful charity which is “make a wish”
For those who are not familiar with the charity “make a wish”. Make a wish charity makes magical wishes come true to enrich
the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening
conditions.
Whether it’s starring in their own films, walking with dinosaurs, going on an amazing holiday, meeting a celebrity hero, or having a life-changing bedroom makeover; the wishes are varied.
The effects a wish can have on a seriously ill child: from creating incredible memories, building confidence and bringing happiness, to providing respite from the daily struggles that come with a life-threatening condition. My reasons for picking this charity will be explained at the bottom.
I’m sure all who know me are aware that in as recent as September
2014 I weighed 20 stone 8lb. As a fairly short 5 foot 7 man this made me pretty massive. To put things in perspective i had to get on my knees to tie my shoe laces. I would get out of breath just doing normal routines. I had no self esteem and was seriously depressed with my life situation. I couldn't snap out of it like a normally did. I knew at this point i couldn’t keep feeling this low which i had done really when i look back since i was 17. I had to get up and do something about it. So I did, and within 10 months down the line (July 2015 ) after lots of running and a healthier life style I was the lightest I have been and the happiest since I was a kid at school. I had lost nearly 7 stone and weighed in at 13 stone and 11lb.
I have since kept this regime up and weigh 14 stone and for
the last 2 years still ran the same distances each day but i have stagnated and need a new challenge to give me focus, stimulation and perhaps as a bonus kick on and loose a little more. The preparation in 2 weeks has already paid off as within two weeks of me signing up for this half marathon I have doubled my distance on my usual running distance from 4 mile run to a 8 mile run. So I’m very confident with focus and dedication i will be able to do this half marathon.
The reasoning behind me picking this charity above various
other charities is even though i was in a unhealthy bad situation back in 2014 I still could do something about with the right mindset as it was something i had created. Some children and young people
are not fortunate enough to have situation like me where their destiny is in their own hands. So if i can raise money for a charity which gives happiness and joy whilst also achieving my own goals i think will be a fantastic thing.
Thanks for reading and any donation to a fantastic charity
will make this experience double rewarding.
Thanks
