SARA is the second largest lifeboat organisation in the UK and unlike the RNLI they are all volunteers. They depend on donations to keep them running and offering lifeboat cover to the people of Newport. SARA also run many other search and rescue disciplines such as Swiftwater Rescue which is a service the local Police and Fire and Rescue Service call on in the more frequently occurring flood situations. This money will help them to continue their extensive training and go towards a new vehicle to replace the recently retired Mobile 1 Landrover Discovery.
