Matt's Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge

Yorkshire 3 Peaks · 6 June 2020
I’ve met so many inspirational people since joining Brain Tumour Research in September 2018 so I thought it was time for me to take on a big challenge to raise some funds myself!!!
So, on 22 August 2020 I will be dusting off my hiking boots to take on the epic Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, walking up (and down!) Pen-y-ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres) – a total of 24.5 miles, which I will aim to complete in under 12 hours.
I am immensely privileged to work with patients and their families, supporting their incredible fundraising efforts and helping them to share their stories. This challenge has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember and since I’m based in Yorkshire, it seems like a fitting way to pay tribute to all the inspirational people I’ve met during my time at Brain Tumour Research.
This is the biggest ‘physical’ challenge I’ve taken on so I’ve started my training in the Yorkshire Moors already and will be posting updates as I go! The longest I’ve walked before is around 10 miles so this is going to be a tough challenge for me.
Below are some facts and figures about brain tumours that I’m sure will shock and surprise many of you as it did when I first read them:
