ING New York Marathon 2011 · 6 November 2011 ·

We work to improve the education and care given to pre-school children in highly deprived communities in Ghana and Uganda. We work through local government to train and empower mothers to provide better care at home and run educational Play Schemes that give young children a better start in life.

Story

For the last four months we have been pounding the pavements of London to train for the New York marathon - all 26.2 miles of it! But why would anyone put themselves through this....? The answer in our case is that we are running in order to raise funds for two charities: Hyderapals and Lively Minds.  Lively Minds is collecting donations on behalf of both charities through this justgiving page. All donations will be split 50/50 between the two charities.

Hyderapals supports the education and welfare of over 180 children at the MS Foundation school in the slums of Hyderabad,India. http://msfoundationschool.org/

Lively minds is improving the quality of life for deprived children and their families in rural Ghana and Uganda through creative education programmes that are run by the communities themselves.  www.livelyminds.org

The charities we have chosen to run for are very close to our hearts. Rachel and Matthew are both trustees of Hyderapals, and Matthew is a trustee of Lively Minds.

In addition (and unlike the position with many charities who divert a substantial proportion of monies raised to funding marathon places, flights, etc.) not a penny of your money will be wasted as we are meeting all expenses ourselves. As a result your generous donations are going straight to the communities these charities support. We would be really grateful if you felt able to support the important and life changing work of these two charities
