Story
Our darling son and brother Matthew took his own life in July. He was seriously mentally ill and would not accept that anyone could help him - despite our pleas. Sadly, people like Matthew, in such a dark place, are the most vunerable of all.
We would like to do everything we can to raise awareness that we must all acknowledge and help the increasing number of young people who suffer this plight. The obsession with data protection meant that we, his family, were unable, until the last minute, to understand the extent of Matthew's illness. More must be done to support young people at school and university. That support should also connect with parents and families and not allow their invaluable care to be eroded through unnecessary adherence to rules that can cost lives.
