The Three Peaks Challenge · 3 October 2023

St Wilfrid’s Hospice provides tailored end of life care both in the community and at our Hospice, supporting our patients living with a terminal illness, and their family and friends. We rely on the generous support of our community to raise the £8million we need each year to fund our services.

Story

On 12th August 2013 I lost my Sister-in-law to breast cancer. She was 34 years old. St Wilfrid's provided end-of-life care and specialist equipment to make Sam's passing as bearable as possible for both her and her family. The work the hospice performs for families in the local area is hard to comprehend.

To support our 2023 Charity of the Year, St Wilfrid's Hospice, a team from Tennyson Insurance will climbing the 3 largest mountains in the UK in just 24 hours on the 3rd October, as part of the National 3 Peaks Challenge. We're excited but slightly terrified at the prospect, as it involves walking 23 miles, with a total ascent of 3064 metres (10,052ft) and the total driving distance is 462 miles. Given it's for such an amazing cause, how could they say no!?

In addition to the Three Peaks Challenge, I have two other fundraising challenges that your donation to St Wilfrid's will be supporting.

On 17th June 2023 I walked with a team from Tennyson Insurance to complete the ten mile Moonlight Walk that is held annually in Chichester. Because 10 miles is a fairly short affair I pushed a friend who is a wheelchair user to keep me company :) We completed the walk in 3 and a half hours, mostly due to a very slow bottleneck on the Centurion way!

On 12th August 2023 I completed my own Three Piers Challenge, setting off from Bognor Regis pier, walking first to Worthing Pier, then Brighton Palace Pier. I expected to do the 27 miles in just under 10 hours, and finished on the day in 9 hours 18 minutes. I had originally intended a return trip, but whilst training for the day I had to accept my fitness was not up to the task this year.

St Wilfrid's hospice care for and support those in our community who are in the last phase of their lives bit in the hospice and in the home too. Many of our colleagues have benefited from their work and our goal is to raise as much money as we can to support them, to ensure they can continuing support every family locally who might need them both now and in the future. If you can spare a few pennies, please do donate today :-)
