Please share my page with your friends and family or anyone you know that has been impacted by Dementia.
Some of you may or may not know that I work as a Senior Practitioner for the Hospital and Reablement Discharge Team at Rutland County Council. For many years now I have supported individuals of various ages with physical and mental health conditions to leave hospital and return to their loved ones with appropriate care and support in place for both.
In my role I see the significant impact that different health conditions have on the individual and their families, this varies from fractured hips to delirium, cancer to motor neurone disease, learning disabilities to schizophrenia, cardiac failure to respiratory issues.
So why Dementia ?!! I have worked alongside so many different people who are living with dementia. In their professional careers some may have been cleaners or dinner ladies, others have been CEO's of multi millionaire companies or sporting professionals, whilst other have been home makers or pioneers in their chosen field. What draws all these people together is the impact dementia has on their lives and their loved ones. It really is heart breaking to see those who struggle with the shock and ever changing demands of having to care for a loved one diagnosed with dementia.
Dementia UK is a national charity that aims to improve the quality of life for people with dementia. It offers advice and support to families who are living with dementia through its Admiral Nurses, who are registered nurses and dementia experts. Admiral Nurse’s have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems. As dementia specialists, Admiral Nurses help families manage complex needs considering the person living with dementia and the people around them and they can advise other healthcare professionals. For families affected by dementia, they can be a lifeline!
When people are struggling, the Admiral Nurses help them take back control. They help people living with dementia to stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. Admiral Nurses give people the quality of care that we would all want for ourselves and our loved ones!!!
I have seen first hand what amazing and incredible work the Admiral Nurses do for people here in Rutland and others work through the country to support people living with dementia in their area. Dementia UK are working hard to increase the number of nurses across the UK so no one has to face dementia alone.
