Dear friends and family, I am walking over 96 miles of rugged Scottish terrain to raise funds for Cancer Research who are committed to funding cancer research of the highest international calibre. 

1 in 3 people will develop cancer during their lifetime with 910 people diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. The good news is that death rates for common cancers have reduced by 30% in the last 20 years, due in part to the excellent work that Cancer Research have done in supporting research into effective treatments. However, in March this year my father died from complications caused by pancreatic cancer which has a 10 year survival rate of just 3% partly due to our poor detection of the disease.

Cancer research has just announced a collaboration with a leading drug company for a 2 year programme for basic research into potential drugs for treating pancreatic cancer and it's this kind of effort that's going to improve the prognosis for people who are diagnosed. This is just one of the many high quality research projects that Cancer Research supports.

My walk will start on the 24th of September in Milngavie, just north of Glasgow and ends 5 days later in Fort William (See the map in the picture gallery). This will be a pretty tough walk even for me, so please give generously - my goal is to raise £1000 for Cancer Research.
