Story

Dear All,

Please help me to complete my ultimate challenge in my 40th Year while simultaneously raising funds for a very worthy charity: SCOPE.

For those of you that don’t know me, think of the charity Scope and the good work they do for those with Cerebal Palsy. Please all dig deep.

More information on SCOPE can be gained from their web site link below                http://www.scope.org.uk

In February 2007, between the 15th and 24th to be exact, I am flying from Heathrow to Nairobi in Africa . From there i will travel down to |Tanzania and into Tanzania National Park, where i will start my accent up the Mighty Kilimanjaro.

From start to finish the expedition is 10days in duration, from leaving London Heathrow to returning, of which 6 days are spent trekking between 6hrs and 9hrs per day. The final ascent is expected to be an early start, getting up at midnight for the longest trek up to 14hrs. With a lot of luck I should hopefully watch dawn break way above the clouds.

This expedition is not for the faint hearted, it is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one, I will have to cope with Altitudes far greater that I am used to and potentially I may suffer from severe Altitude sickness, while operating at this extreme altitude. Other side effects that I may suffer form are Nausea, dehydration, and extreme fatigue; these are all major contributors to many failed attempts on Kilimanjaro. I now have ten months of intensive and gruelling training ahead of me just to stand a chance of completing this daunting challenge.

Standing at      19,340ft        Which is 5.895Km High, Covering conditions form Equatorial to Polar ice capped peeks as low as _20 degrees.

Crowned by eternal snows, the mighty Kilimanjaro (19,340ft) is the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Located in (National park) Africa , this extinct volcano looms over five eco-systems and large game reserves and is certainly one of the world’s most impressive sights. The terrain is nothing short of dramatic.

As one of the most fascinating and diverse regions on earth, Kilimanjaro has attracted both climbers and nature enthusiasts with its magnetism. The ascent  up this great peak is mainly non- technical by nature, the technical accents are only to be encountered by the keen and experienced, however both ascent by nature affords a full mountaineering experience ( with all the rigors and rewards) for those in strong physical condition.

I have now started my 10 Months training, including Cardio for stamina, cycling for legs, weights for core and back stability and Mountain exposure to actual walking, building up to 12 hours of trekking per day. All prior to 15 February 2007!

I would like all my friends and colleagues to help me meet my target sponsorship; I have to date of this email raised the sum of £1030 from friends and local businesses.

With your help I hope to not only meet the £2800 Minimum requirement but actually surpass this to the Personal target I have set myself of £5000.

I’d also like to encourage you all to let your friends and family know about my expedition. If you have any other fundraising ideas please do not hesitate in letting me know. After all, it is for a very good charity.

So come on every one of you please dig deep and help me meet my challenge, in raising not only the minimum but my personal higher total of £5000.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of you for at least reading this item and an even bigger thank you to any of you who chose to make donations.

Remember this is no easy challenge for me, with a hell of a lot of training ahead of me. so please dig deep as every penny counts.

 Thank you all
