RCN 1050845 (England & Wales), SC052581 (Scotland)
Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

WHO AM I?

My name is Matthew NICHOLSON, am currently living and working in London, however will always call Northern Ireland my home!  My motives for partaking in this race are two fold...

1, to get myself back into shape (and my brothers)!
2, to raise some funds for a very worthwhile charity, C-R-Y (Cardiac Risk in the Young, see below for more information).

WHY C-R-Y?

When it came to choose a charity to fundraise for, I wanted to pick one that had a personal meaning to me; therefore I decided to dedicate this fundraising to John McCALL (see picture, top-left).

I got to know John very well through the Royal School Armagh's rugby community and his family circle.

John was an amazingly talented young man, whose life was cut short at 18 by a heart condition. John was gifted in many areas; most significantly with his artistic flair and raw skill on the rugby field.  Even for a man of 18, he had achieved so much in the sport; Captaining his Royal School 1st XV side to Ulster Schools Cup victory and going on to represent Ireland in the U19 Rugby World Cup in South Africa.

MORE INFO ON C-R-Y

Every week 8 'apparently' fit and healthy young people die in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions.

Hundreds of young people die unexpectedly of heart defects every year. C-R-Y works to raise awareness of Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) and campaigns for proactive screening of young people. It offers help and support to those who have suffered a loss, provides medical information, carries out Mobile Cardiac Screening and ECG Testing Programmes within local communities and contributes to medical research.

MEET THE TEAM

Well you've heard about me, so here are the others:

Mark NICHOLSON
Elder brother from Northern Ireland, flying over especially!  Mark is a director of Greenway Ireland Recycling in Mountnorris, and is a qualified PGA Golf Professional.

Paul NICHOLSON
Another elder brother, however lives in London like me.  Paul works for Nomura Asset Management in St. Pauls.

Matt CUNNANE (aka Marathon Man)
Matt is no stranger to these sorts of things, and is hoping to make a good time around the grand prix circuit, good luck to him!

Sean FLORY
Latest addition to the team, and fresh from a month in Brazil (Jan).  Sean is also the youngest member of the team, but will he surpass the experience (or lack) of the Nicholson brothers?!?!
